We love to see it. This somewhat rare mid 90s-early 2000s acoustic is essentially a stripped down 000-18 for a fraction of the price, which is why you don't see these terribly often. They ultimately stopped making them because the sales of this model soared high above some of their more expensive builds. Rest assured, this USA-made, 25.4" scale, solid Spruce top is congruent with the top-tier quality that Martin is known for. Solid Spruce top, solid Mahogany back, laminated Mahogany sides, Mahogany neck, and Rosewood fretboard...It's the real deal. It's outfitted with a Fishman soundhole pickup with the endpin jack for no-fuss gigging. On a less technical note, it plays incredibly well in comparison to some other acoustics of the same price tier. The intonation is nice and even all up and down the fretboard and it feels pleasantly smooth, whereas some other entry-level acoustics tend to have intonation issues and feel more rigid. They didn't stick around to duke it out with Fender or Gibson, but they still managed to make a sweet axe.

They ran prototypes in ’78 and the guitars entered production in 1979. There were 3 versions of the guitar; the E-18, the EM-18 and the EB-18 (bass!). All were double cutaway guitars, offset, with the horns rounded off. Inspired by the neck-through, active creations of Alembic guitars, the natural lacquered bodies were built to resemble the natural wood guitars of the day, using a laminate of maple and rosewood and mahogany giving not only a striped effect, but the appearance of a neck-through-body guitar, although they are set necks, glued into a pocket in the body.

The mahogany D-profile neck has a thickness of 0.865" at the 1st fret and 1.020" at the 12th fret, and is complemented by a 12" radius rosewood fretboard with a nut width of 1 5/8".

This EM-18 is a DiMarzio-loaded (8.43k N, 8.13k B), offset son of a gun ready to shred. It is versatile as hell, with dual volume and tone controls as well as coil tap and phase toggles that allow you to dial in exactly what you tone you hear in your head.

This one is really dang clean. Very light playwear but no serious dings or bruises. With less than 1400 of them made, this guitar is an absolute gem to have in your rig and being a Martin, it is certain to continue to increase in value with the vintage guitar market.

Aside from the cool factor, it's received a full fret level and a spot-on setup from our top shelf luthiers, this thing PLAYS. What a pleasure it is to have such a beautiful piece of history in the shop. It's not every day you get to strum a chord on a genuine pre-war.

A true classic. The Martin Dreadnought is a timeless instrument that has been used by countless guitarists for the better part of a century, and will continue to be a favorite for decades to come. If this guitar could talk, oh the stories it would tell.

Okay, now that our heart rate has come back down a little bit, let's talk about some of the specs. Of course, the back and sides are constructed of genuine mahogany, and are complemented by a spruce top which proudly displays plenty of playwear from its eight and a half decade career. The mahogany neck has a soft V-profile, with thickness measuring 0.810" at the 1st fret and 1.00" at the 12th, and is topped with an ebony 16" radius fretboard and a nut width of 1 21/32".

Now let's be clear, this ain't no closet queen. This guitar has been played and loved, as it should be. When it came to us, it needed a little spa day to say the least. But fret not, our in-house luthiers have given it a brand new lease on life. A neck reset, refret, new bridge and saddle, top crack repair, a couple reglued braces, patched original bridge plate, and a fresh setup later, and this beauty plays better than ever before. It is ready to continue to be passed down and played on stages and in studios for another nearly hundred years. Not all vintage guitars sound good. Just because it's old it doesn't mean it's special. But this one is special. Whoever ends up with this one will truly have an inspiring piece of gear.

We'll pack this gorgeous guitar up for you snug as a bug in a rug and ship it to you safe and sound in its hardshell case full insured!
