This is a vintage offset gem that has J*zzmaster vibe for days! But with a sparkly pair of single coils loaded in the pickguard. Mmmmm...
The fame of Hofner basses has been heralded far and wide (why am I talking like that?), but their guitars have been sorely overlooked. That stops here and now. Say hello to the Hofner 164. Let's get acquainted, shall we ("sHaLl We?" I swear, I never say shit like that; I don't know what's happening)?
Made in Germany in the '60s, these great guitars feature a fully maple construction (Neck thickness: .817"-.909") with comfy, playable 12" rosewood fingerboard.
The single coil pickups each have an on/off slider switch for engaging and disengaging them (N: 6.48k, B: 6.37k). Add to this a single volume and single tone, and you're in business. Rock n roll ain't complicated, ya'll.
The original tuners have been swapped out. Over all this guitar shows light signs of love and use consistent with its age. There are dings, there are light scratches, there is pick swirl, there is buckle rash. But that's how it goes in the topsy turvy world of rock n' roll. Shit happens. But this Hofner has escaped relatively unscathed.
The frets on this guy are very very low. It's ready to continue a life of rock but will benefit from a refret. But it still feels really nice and playable. The pr techs here at EMS have given it a full setup.
