The Placid Audio Copperphone Microphone is unlike any full range microphone you have heard, it operates within a limited bandwidth of frequencies which lends a nostalgic quality to the signal. Some might compare the sound of the Copperphone to an AM radio or a telephone.

The sound is achieved through a combination of the microphones element and a mechanical filtering device. The element is rear ported into a hollow resonant chamber and as sound passes through the diaphragm into the chamber, upper mid range frequencies are accentuated while low and high frequencies are reduced. The Placid Audio Copperphone does not use phantom power as it has a passive dynamic element. It uses a Switchcraft 3 pin male XLR connector and can be connected to any audio gear with a 3 pin female XLR connector via an XLR cable. Accidentally applying phantom power will not harm the microphone or affect its performance. Because the sound of the Placid Audio Copperphone has a character unlike many other traditional mics, it makes a great addition to any recording enthusiasts arsenal of microphones. It can be used as an all out obvious effect on its own or it can be paired with other traditional microphones for infinite blending possibilities.

The Placid Audio Copperphone can be used live as a specialty effects mic in conjunction with regular microphones. As with any microphone, feedback can be an issue. Results will vary depending on the application, the overall volume of your band, the quality of the sound system and the experience of the engineer running the sound system. However very careful adjustment and equalization of the Copperphone in the monitors can yield acceptable results. If you use an in ear monitor system, potential feedback problems are usually not an issue. The Placid Audio Copperphone is constructed from quality rugged materials and is likely to withstand a high degree of shock or other physical impacts. The Copperphone can also withstand extremely high sound pressure levels without damage to the diaphragm. However a high SPL is likely to overdrive the diaphragm resulting in a clipping style distortion that may be desired for some applications.
