Killer axe here. When Mayer left Fender for PRS the guitar world flipped on their heads. But Paul Reed Smith and crew delivered the goods. The Silver Sky is here to stay.
The Silver Sky is an idealized version of a vintage single-coil guitar where every detail adds up and sets this guitar apart from the pack and the past. The result of a close collaboration between Grammy Award-winning musician John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, the Silver Sky is based off of years of development.
The maple neck features a 635JM rounded profile, with a thickness of 0.851" at the 1st fret and 0.958" at the 12th, an 8.5" radius rosewood fretboard, and a nut width of 1.625". The 635JM single-coil pickups (7.43k neck, 7.41k middle, 7.28k bridge) are very round and full, with a musical high end that is never “ice-picky” or brash.
The SE Silver Sky keeps the signature details of the US-made original: the small bird inlays on the fretboard, the beveled lower horn, and the 635JM-style pickups. And with a slightly flatter fretboard, it's a bit easier to play, especially when soloing. It's just about the same guitar at less than half the price—like a premium Stratocaster, but built for the everyman.
This specific guitar has had a couple cosmetic changes to make it look more like its USA made big brother, as well as a new tortoiseshell pickguard, but this here is the SE model.
This guitar is very lightly used, and is in fantastic playing shape. Like all guitars here at EMS, our master luthiers have given it a fresh setup and leveled the frets to ensure that it plays absolutely immaculately with zero dead notes, precise intonation, and easy low action. We'll ship it to you super fast and super safe in its included PRS gig bag.
