These old Sears amps are a real treat when they come through the shop. Always a blast to play through with loads of vintage vibe! If only they weren't so finicky! If only some knight in shining technologically savvy armor could come and just make one that still had all that character but, with modern reliability. Gasp! What's this? A Black Tape modded Silvertone 1482? Well I'll be damned.
For those who aren't familiar, Black Tape Amplifiers is a small amp builder based right here in Nashville Tennessee known for his amazing amp builds and mods. When it comes to this amp, almost no stone was left unturned. All in the name of keeping a sick amp on the road! It began with the jacks, all of which were replaced along with the input circuitry in favor of components that more properly matched modern amp i/o standards. The phase inverter was also completely rebuilt for the same purpose.
The tubes in this amp were old and on the verge of giving out. Rather than just find some new stock, Black Tape went out and sourced identical old stock RCA tubes in like new condition to keep it true! You know what they say folks, the tone's in the tubes. To finish off the incredible spa day this amp was getting, it got a careful cleaning and bias to get it fully up to snuff. Other than that, this amp is 100% original including the speaker! Only now stronger, sicker, and more reliable! What's not to love?
Probably the fact that this isn't already in your collection. Scoop this lil thang up and we'll ship it out super fast and super safe for ya! Give us a call at the shop with any additional questions you may have.
