The name Tom Scholz carries monumental prestige in the guitar world. Not only was he the mastermind behind some of the most iconic songs of the 70's and 80's, but also the designer of countless pieces of equipment that helped shape the sonic landscape of rock and roll for decades to come through the Rockman brand name.
The Power Soak was the first commercial product Scholz produced long before the introduction of the Rockman brand in 1982. It was released simply labeled as "Tom Scholz's Power Soak." Though the Power Soak was not the first power attenuation device for guitar amps, it was the first to be 100% reliable, the first to stay true to the sound of the amp. Most of all, it was the first to include a volume control: the previous devices were only dummy-loads without setting.
