This ain't your average everyday regular john. If only...there was another amplifier that was this sick, sick, sick. A true beast of an amplifier built in the 70's and was famously used by certified rippers like Josh Homme, Keith Richards, Rory Gallagher and many more. Good enough for them, good enough for you!
At its core, this Ampeg gives you classic Fender-style tones, but with much greater tonal flexibility and overall oomph. Whether you're going for the stoner rock thing, or enjoy not being buried in a mix, this quad cone bearing behemoth has mids for dayyyyzzz. You can choose which midrange frequency you're cutting or boosting with a nifty rocker switch to choose from 300, 1000, and 3000hz. Throw in the bass & treble knobs and "Ultra-Hi" switch for even more clarity, you've got yourself a hell of a preamp! The input sensitivity switches are also a very underrated feature of this amp. Whether your guitar has mellow vintage-style pickups or hot modern humbuckers, these rocker switches allow you to hit the VT-40's preamp with the same amount of juice every time.
This amp has more than enough volume on tap for you to shatter windows and play songs for the deaf, but it's certainly not mandatory. The master volume knob allows you to enjoy the sweet Ampeg magic at the decibel level of your choosing. Oh yeah, and the spring reverb in this thing is absolutely killer... it even comes with the footswitch for the reverb!
This badass amplifier has seen its fair share of use over the course of its 50+ year existence, but it's fully functioning and sounds so rad.
