We love him, you should know him. John Capito over at Black Tape Amplifiers has been cooking up some real cool circuits for years.
This particular amp is Black Tape's take on the vintage Marshall PA20 with a modification to the phase inverter. The commonly available schematic written by Marshall is incomplete.... The phase inverter is missing a bias circuit. Capito added a fixed bias to the long tailed pair and massively increased the functionality of the amp; the amp is not always generating blatty distortion!
The Natural 20 uses a set of Fender Deluxe Reverb transformers and as an interesting twist to the original Marshall, uses the cool 6973 power tube which is similar to a 9 pin EL84 sized 6V6.
The amp is on the bright side like its inspirational Marshall but capable of usable cleans at lower gain settings unlike the OG Marshall.
It is loaded up with a Mojotone Greyhound 12" 70W Speaker offering a smooth classic British sound with the brightness of American tones. It provides clean and clear tones, praised for being full and punchy, making it suitable for mid to high gain amplifiers.
Oh, and of course like all of John's amps....it sounds fucking killer.
