The Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer is legendary for its smooth compression and "squashing" tone as used on many Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Dire Straits, and other classic albums.
There's no frills with this little vintage gadget, just plug in and flip the switch and get squeezed. This thing is like an instant "make me sound better" machine. Whether you want to use it to drive your amp harder, or to clean up your picking attack, once you unplug it, you'll want to plug it back in again. No wonder there have been so many clones of this circuit made, but there's nothing like the original.
The wiring can be configured one of two ways, either to be plugged directly into the guitar and run your cable out of it to go to the amp, or vice versa and plug it directly into the amp and run your cable out of it into the guitar. Both configurations will produce slightly different results, but both sound amazing. It's currently wired to be plugged directly into the amp, but the back plate (see pics) explains how to easily invert the wiring.
