The doors of EMS have seen everything, and we mean everything. From the $100 Squier to the $8,000 Castedosa and beyond! Even with that range, one never gets tired of a classic. This 1983 Flying V is just that.
Fan of the shape or not, it encourages you to pick it up and strum a few notes. Like a nice old jacket on that first chilly day of the year, it calls to you. It tells stories of the gigs of old. It tells you to not just play, but also be a badass whilst doing so. Yeah we really love this thing. And yes, you will too after you're done reading.
Believed by our luthiers to have originally been of the Gibson Designer Series, the most noticeable feature of this guitar off the bat is the refinish. Gone is the pain, here to stay is the now exposed grains of that beautiful mahogany body! The body is paired nicely to a maple neck sporting a comfortable C profile and rosewood fretboard. The neck measures .795" at the 1st fret and .955" at the 12th fret while the fretboard rocks a 12" radius. The nut width measures in at 1.695". All numbers that add up to a very natural feeling playing experience! Especially when considering its modest 8.36lb weight as well.
For electronics, in the bridge we've got a piping hot DiMarzio Super Distortion for all your searing hot leads and licks. In the neck, you'll find a real treat. An original Gibson Bill Lawrence Circuit Board pickup! A classic humbucker in sound, these pickups were known for their unique construction comprising of a circuit board mount for the coil and for wiring into the guitar. Just another thing that makes this already unique guitar extra special!
And let's not forget that sweet original Kahler trem system! Believe it or not, there was a time when Gibson was putting those on their stock models!
This beautiful instrument has been given a complete spa day, including a setup, fret level, and some additional light handiwork to bring this badass guitar up to snuff for whatever you may need. Be it stage or studio, this Flying V is ready to blow you away.
