I was asked to create the FALLOUT CLOUD by a number of vintage pedal enthusiasts I know. They were after a Triangle era style pedal that would work with a variety of guitars (Humbucker and single coil's including P90's) and amps and be bombproof so it could be gigged. The brief was simple, make a triangle era Fuzz that could beat their original 1971 Triangle fuzz pedals when placed head to head.
The brief was simple, the task was not, however after many prototypes and a bit of lateral thinking the FALLOUT CLOUD was born. This pedal has the ability to beat any four transistor fuzz you have heard (including the best vintage units). By adjusting the perfectly voiced EQ you can achieve fuzz tones from silky smooth through to doom laden whilst maintain the ability to cut through.
Why the BC108 Fallout Cloud? Well initially Thorpy wanted to do a special run colour, a candy orange sherbet finish for pumpkin spice latte season…. But here’s the thing, as much as he loved the limited edition colour and knob choice, he decided to do some experimenting!
The change in the transistors keeps the fundamentals of the Fallout in place, the same flexibility, same strong EQ and at extremes of gain it maintains the same articulation. But at lower gain settings it is a different beast entirely. Somehow the BC108 NOS transistor version is calmer at low gain settings. It has slightly more sag, and feels smoother under the fingers. It’s a subtle change but for those after a Fallout Cloud that sits more in the vintage camp… here you are, for a short time only.
