The Grand Deceiver takes the original single LM308 op amp and added a switch to bring in another op amp for additional gain, without having to negotiate a secondary filter and volume control.
In addition to the second gain stage, they added an independent High and Low control to allow for even more tonal tweaking than the usual Rat style circuit.
