Ahhh, the Princeton Reverb. We all know it, we all love it. From bedroom jams to intimate club performances to studio sessions, the Princeton has been a timeless go-to amp for countless guitarists.
The folks at Vintage Sound Amps know the Princeton Reverb circuit inside and out, and had such a deep affinity for it that they designed their own modern take on it with a few extra tweaks, to supply that classic 60's "blackface" tone for players who may not have the opportunity to get their hands on an original, or maybe need a little more flexibility than the old Fenders were capable of.
One of the first tweaks they made was to load this bad boy with a 12" speaker instead of the 10" that the original Princetons came with. In addition to the larger speaker cone, they also added a much larger 17" spring reverb pan (the same size that comes in a Twin Reverb!) instead of the usual 9" reverb pan. Another obvious tweak is the addition of a Middle frequency knob for greater tonal control. Under the hood, they also swapped out the standard Princeton 5Y3 rectifier tube for a 5AR4 to get a couple extra watts or headroom.
